  3. OSF DCE availability on the HP 3000 is part of HP's open computing
  4. strategy to ensure interoperability of the HP 3000 with other systems
  5. supporting DCE core components.  It will also allow for the easy import
  6. of DCE-based applications to the Open MPE platform.  Sophisticated
  7. users and tools developers will have an integrated set of naming,
  8. security, and communication capabilities for distributed application
  9. development.

  11. What parts of OSF DCE are available on the HP 3000 today?

  13. The HP 3000 today supports the Network Computing System (NCS) remote
  14. procedure call facility which was one of HP's contributions to the OSF
  15. DCE.  Customers are using NCS today on the HP 3000 to integrate
  16. applications on remote systems. HP OpenSpool will be available on the
  17. HP 3000 next year utilizing the NCS facility.

  21. HP is bringing OSF DCE to the On-Line-Transaction-Processing (OLTP)
  22. commercial world by using it as the foundation for Transarc's
  23. distributed TP monitor. Transarc will provide data integrity for
  24. complex, multi-site transactions across a network of different servers.
  25. With OSF DCE and Transarc on the HP 3000 customer service order entry
  26. applications can be tightly integrated to inventory management,
  27. manufacturing, and logistics applications providing faster confirmation
  28. of orders and improving customer service.

  33. system, network and application management.  The HP 3000's support for
  34. OSF DME will allow a multivendor-computing network to be managed by the

  36. and efficient manner. It will also allow development of new management
  37. applications and integration of existing applications that will
  38. simplify the management of networked environments.
