How will OSF DCE on the HP 3000 benefit existing customers?
OSF DCE availability on the HP 3000 is part of HP's open computing
strategy to ensure interoperability of the HP 3000 with other systems
supporting DCE core components. It will also allow for the easy import
of DCE-based applications to the Open MPE platform. Sophisticated
users and tools developers will have an integrated set of naming,
security, and communication capabilities for distributed application
development.
What parts of OSF DCE are available on the HP 3000 today?
The HP 3000 today supports the Network Computing System (NCS) remote
procedure call facility which was one of HP's contributions to the OSF
DCE. Customers are using NCS today on the HP 3000 to integrate
applications on remote systems. HP OpenSpool will be available on the
HP 3000 next year utilizing the NCS facility.
What applications are being targetted for OSF DCE on the HP 3000?
HP is bringing OSF DCE to the On-Line-Transaction-Processing (OLTP)
commercial world by using it as the foundation for Transarc's
distributed TP monitor. Transarc will provide data integrity for
complex, multi-site transactions across a network of different servers.
With OSF DCE and Transarc on the HP 3000 customer service order entry
applications can be tightly integrated to inventory management,
manufacturing, and logistics applications providing faster confirmation
of orders and improving customer service.
What is the HP 3000 strategy for OSF DME?
HP's strategy is to provide a common operating environment for unified
system, network and application management. The HP 3000's support for
OSF DME will allow a multivendor-computing network to be managed by the
HP 3000 with a consistent graphical user interface (GUI) in a unified
and efficient manner. It will also allow development of new management
applications and integration of existing applications that will
simplify the management of networked environments.
What parts of OSF DME will be available on the HP 3000?
HP OpenView framework is supported today on the HP 3000. HP OpenView
Windows HP OpenView Network Management Server HP Network License System
(NetLS) HP Software Distribution Utilities
